The ColorShift Template
One of the most important things that I do as a designer is to innovate design solutions that are not merely aesthetically pleasing, but that maximize efficiency, optimize workflow, and save money.
When I first started as a Graphic Designer at Dynamic Brands, the standards for product photography were such that every product in every colorway would be photographed individually, clipped, color corrected, and dropped into marketing collateral, the website, and the catalog as needed. Restricted by the photography budget, only one angle of each color was taken and detail shots, feature call-outs, and additional photos were taken of one colorway.
My predecessor believed that making changes in Photoshop was far too time-consuming, but I had different ideas.
By using Hue/Saturation adjustment layers combined with detailed layer masking, I was able to create PSD templates to change the colors of our product images easy enough for anyone to use.
By overcoming the mentality of "how we've always done things," we were able to
• save over $40,000 in product photography
• reduce time spent in the studio from five days to three days
• create a unified consistent look among our product line up
This is just one example of how design thinking has made me an asset to Dynamic Brands.
